Sprinkle: Positive Plowshares

you’ve heard the expression
“they shall beat their swords into plowshares”?

it’s in the bible

and you’ve heard of “sword of the mouth”?
that’s in the bible too

could these imply
we beat the swords of our mouths into plowshares…
prepare for life
rather than cut it down?

is this not the same as being positive
all the time…
in each thought, word, and deed?

and is not purity
absence of impurity…
building up
not tearing down?

is not Life
absence of Death?

positive plowshares
we can be
if we but freely choose…

the Gift
is in the choice…

always with Love,

  1. I had to look up the definition of plowshares.. I haven’t really thought much about this word before, and as I looked into it I found something interesting.
In ancient Hebrew times, fields were plowed with a plow pulled behind an ox (or pair of oxen). In order to keep the furrows straight the driver of the ox would aim toward a mark, such as a tree or rock outcropping in the far distance. The pictograph taken from ancient Hebrew text representing the word “plowshare” is the image of an ox head merged with the picture of an “x” (as in “x” marks the spot).

When I thought about all of this in conjunction with what you wrote here, it struck me that our words are either swords or plowshares… Life and death in the tongue… Literally speaking, if we are to stay on course and keep our lives in the right direction, we must speak so that our destination is always on the tip of our tongue… Words of peace, words of love, words of truth. Otherwise, we veer off course and destroy rather than create.

    • Yes, exactly! I knew you’d get it…
and thank you for your thoughts, for these clarify and expand…

we can plow, plant, & nurture… or we can cut down and uproot… life or death… it is our choice… where we head, our destination, may be where we end up… “those who live by the sword, shall die by the sword”…

Your attention and comments truly are a gift… for which I am so grateful…
      thank you 🙂
